Observed in fly-fishing dams in the Mpumalanga Highlands near Dullstroom. This species was found occupying the same dams as Amietia delalandii, along with Strongylopus fasciatus. While S. fasciatus was frequently heard calling - often dominating the chorus - Amietia poyntoni appeared less abundant and less active, with calling only detected on a few occasions.
During our March 2026 Mpumalanga Highlands expedition, only two individuals were recorded.
